Just don't link to images on private sites.  It's best to save those to your computer and host them yourself, otherwise you are using the other person's bandwidth (which they have to pay for). It's usually ok to link directly to promotional banners, Myspace graphics, and so on.

Your link will look like this: click here. Of course, you can use any words you want, it doesn't have to say "click here".
